Sunday 70 mile Pottawattamie Co. Gravel Ride

What: 70 miles of mostly gravel roads through Pottawattamie County, Iowa

When: Sunday, February 3, 2013, 8:45 a.m. meet with a 9:00 a.m. rollout

Where: Meet at the Wabash Trace parking area near Traceview Loop and Pioneer Trail in Council Bluffs, IA.  Note:  This is about 4 miles southeast down Pioneer Trail from the Iowa School for the Deaf.  [ map ]

Bikes: Cross bikes recommended

Pace:  Not sure.  I'm trying out some new 38mm tires, so I want to see how it works out.  I'm hoping for 13-18 MPH.

Route:  Through or near Council Bluffs, Macedonia, Carson, Oakland, Treynor, and back to Council Bluffs.  There may be an opportunity to refuel in Oakland, however, be prepared to carry all the nutrition you might need for the 70 miles.  Expect about 5500 feet in elevation gain.  There are plenty of opportunities to pinch off some of the loop to shorten the trip if we decide to wrap it up or if anyone needs to peel off for whatever reason.

Extras: Bring whatever tools and supplies you need to fix a flat.  Seriously.  This is not optional.
