New Beginner Friendly Group Ride: Saturday Mornings at Trek Bicycle Store of Omaha

There's a new beginner friendly group ride in town starting this summer.  Here's a recent Facebook post from Trek Bicycle Store of Omaha:

Join us for the Saturday Coffee ride. Want to go on a leisurely morning coffee ride without having to worry about getting dropped off the pack and/or run over by a car? We will leave the midtown shop at 8:00am and head down the trail to shop off the trail. We can stop, socialize, make witty remarks, and then head back again at a comfortable pace. plan on around 10-15 miles. the route and stop are open to suggestions. All are welcome, this is a ride for the people!

You may rent a bike if you don't have one, or want to try something different.

The shop is at 7214 Jones St.  [ map ]

Wednesday Night Gravel Ride, 30 miles, Suitable for Beginners

I've got a new lighting system that I want to try out and I can't wait until the weekend.

What: 30 mile gravel roads loop with about 1700 feet of elevation gain.  Start in Papillion and loop through Springfield.  If necessary, we might stop at the convenience store there for a break, bathrooms, etc.  All are welcome.

When: Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 6:30pm

Where: Meet at Papillion - La Vista South High School near 108th St. and Highway 370.  Park near the football field.

Pace: Easy and relaxed.  One of us is trying a new single speed 29er MTB.  Fastest flat speed for him on that bike is about 12MPH.  The rest of us might match our gears to his just to keep it fun.  This is a no-drop ride, but consider this event carefully against your skills and ability.

Notes:  Bring a light!  This is important.  There's not much ambient light out in the country.  A rear flasher is a really good idea, too.  There will be a full moon, but don't count on that to get you by.  It's getting warmer, but you'll also need appropriate clothing to handle the change in temperature as night sets in.  Also bring flat fixing supplies.

50 mile Riverfront, Iowa and Keystone Ride

What: 50 miles of mixed path and road riding with a couple of miles of Wabash Trace crushed limestone surface
When: Sunday, Jan. 29, 2011, 10am rollout (come earlier for coffee)
Where: Meet at Blue Line Coffee, 749 N 14th, St
Pace: 15-18 MPH, with plenty of opportunities for regrouping if the pace picks up or slows down
Bikes: Any bike should be fine.  All are welcome
Route: View the map here at MapMyRide

This is a perfect opportunity to buy your Wabash Trace passes for the year.  I'll be bringing a check and a SASE for the dropbox.

We'll be crossing the Bellevue Toll Bridge, so bring some cash for that.  Please bring food, water, and your flat fixing tools.
