Wabash Trace Crank and Camp

What: Bike ride from Omaha/Council Bluffs south on the Wabash Trace.  Options for a same-day return, an overnight camp-out, bed & breakfast, or hotel.  Total mileage could range from 90 miles to 150 miles.

When: Saturday-Sunday, October 22-23, 2011

Where: Omaha/Council Bluffs to Blanchard and back.  That's a few feet away from Missouri, y'all!

Who: Anyone who wants to have fun on a local bike tour

Why: If you have to ask, you probably don't want to come

How: Load up your bike with whatever supplies you need and pedal and eat until you get there.  We will have limited space to pack gear in Kim's car.

Help: Add your name to the RSVP on Facebook and help get word out about the ride.  The more, the merrier.

Notes

Mike and Bob did this ride a few years ago.  Mike says that they paid for camping spots at the bar in Coin.  You can read about Mike's adventure here.  Learn from his experience.  There's a lot of good info there.

Below are some camping and lodging options taken from the Internet.  I haven't checked on availability of any of these.  At this point, you're on your own for booking a campsite or a hotel.

I haven't decided yet if I want to camp or take a room somewhere.  Regardless, Kim has agreed to drive gear down in her car and meet up with us.

Even if you don't want to stay overnight, you could do this as an out and back with a lunch in Shenandoah.  You could also choose to start the ride, or meet at the Wabash Trace trailhead, ride a while, and turn back.  The point is that we should get out for a fun fall ride.

Here's a map showing the ride from midtown Omaha to Blanchard near the Missouri border.

Please use the comments below to start talking about plans.  We can formalize who can carry what and who might want to camp versus take lodging, etc.

  1. I think the B&Bs are all closed. I don't get ab answer when I try to call them.

Rates for the Days Inn in Shenandoah are $57, plus tax, for a one bed room.

I think I'll take a hotel room. Who all wants to camp?

We can time the return ride so that we meet for breakfast somewhere.

  2. The 2011 Fall Crank and Camp is less than one week away!

We've got at least three folks camping, and a few others overnighting in a hotel.

There's a lot of discussion going on at the Facebook event page. Check it out if you need more info: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=217360681659291
